Hi everyone! Let’s jump into this week’s quick update:
BLINK S is in stock now! Ships within 5 – 7 business days.
BLINK S2 is in stock now! Ships within 5 – 7 business days.
Huge thanks to our backers in the EU! Most BLINK S2s are now being processed for shipment. Please note, shipment will be coordinated in the order VAT payments are received. If we received your payment prior to September 18th, your shipments have already been submitted to our shipping agent in France earlier this week. As soon as we have tracking information for your shipment we will sent it to you via e-mail.
We will have an update next week for backers who paid VAT and shipping on or after September 18th.
Australia and New Zealand
BLINK S2 shipments to New Zealand were picked up yesterday by our courier. Please expect to receive tracking information early next week. All backers in Australia should have received S2s by now.
Suspension System: hooray! Early this week we opened molds for our new suspension system. The new mold improves the overall stiffness, carving ability and stability of the QU4TRO. Molding time is 4 weeks.
Remote: molds are in progress, should be done by end of this month. Also, our testers are raving about the QU4TRO remote control. Testers love the thumbwheel system ergonomics and having the battery and connectivity light indicator readily available.
Chassis, bumpers and trucks: molds are in progress, should be done by end of this month.
Integrated Lights: you’ve asked, we’ve listened! 🙂 3 modes controlled by our app: 1) All lights on, 2) front and tail light on, side lights off, and 3) all lights off.
Overall Weight: current prototype is 24 lbs, we are working on shaving off 1-2 lbs in production with precision production parts.
Overall Height: current prototype height is 126mm; final production height will be 121mm.
Pro Mode High Speed Test: We had a power cut off issue while testing in high speed, earlier this week. The issue has been solved and we are now ready to go with full speed again.
Production schedule: Initial small run production units will be shipped by end of Oct, 2017; Mass batch production units will be shipped by end of Nov, 2017.
Thank you to all the test riders that came to our HQ yesterday to test ride our latest QU4TRO prototype!
“The Qu4tro was fun to test out. I was a bit skeptical at first about the new style trucks but they turned out to be really smooth and offered a very comfortable ride over bumps. I’m looking forward to the final version of the Qu4tro. The prototype I tested had plenty of power and fantastic acceleration. I think it will make for a very fun board on longer rides where any hills maybe involved. Keep up the good work!” – by Stephan M. received by F 9/22
“The sound you are hearing is some loose part of one of the trucks as that is just a prototype so some stuff was not completely tightened down and making that sound. The board is actually very quiet for having 4 hub motors. The good: It has tremendous amounts of torque and can go pretty fast. I think the majority of the people will be very satisfied with the speed. If you need to go faster than this board can go you could bomb down a hill or something but on flat ground the board feels plenty fast. I have a Blinks S2 with about 450 miles on it now and you can feel the speed difference. Personally I am still satisfied with the S2 in pro mode as that is fast enough for general cruising and mild hills. For big hills the Qu4tro should be great in theory. The testing was done on flat ground so can’t really say what the hills will be like but it does feel like it’s got a lot of torque and power.
It takes some getting used to not having a tail like on the S2 since the wheels stick out on the front and back of the board so you are not able to do little ollies or lift the nose of the board up at all with your feet. Think of it as a long board with zero tail. The new Avenue trucks are still something I’m getting used to. They basically are like leaf springs for the front and back trucks. They do make the board very smooth going over bumps or rocks so this should be a plus for longer distance riding.
The main issue I had with the proto type is that the trucks were way to loose and they could not be tightened anymore. Loose trucks are ok if the looseness is directly proportional to the turning…meaning that if it is loose it should also turn really easily but that was not the case. To me it felt like just a loose board that did not have good turning capabilities. I’m sure this will get worked out as they are still working on some of the geometry and angles for the trucks and this was just a prototype. The board does have a very cool and modern looking design and the new remote is really comfortable and smooth as well.” – by Stephan M. received by Sat. 9/23
“As a skater for 11+ years I have only come close to the amount of fun I had on the QU4TRO twice, the first at Pacifica Skatepark, San Francisco, I fell in love with that park and have loved riding there since my first time. The second was on Marlesta Rd in Pinole California where i reached 27mph on my longboard! Now to me that’s saying a lot I don’t know if you can fathom the smiles I had those days but my experience on your wonderful product blew me away! The suspension trucks were a great way to up the ante and made for a splendid ride. Im also glad we were lucky enough to have a competitor there (evolve carbon gt?) as it made for a comparison that I didn’t expect to have. My honest opinion is that for my style of skating and the aggressive nature I have on skateboards is that the QU4TRO did nothing but impress. It’s the perfect product for me , the carbon gt felt way to delicate and also the jerkiness of the acceleration was very uncomfortable as well as the breaking i felt like i almost was gonna fall a couple times. The QU4TRO had a more controlled and comfy pick up. I feel like it’s an innovation far needed in the game of eboards, I look forward to seeing the end product and don’t know how much better it can get! But I also look forward to being surprised once again.” – Joel V.
The team is working around the clock on refinement to complete QU4TRO. Also, we would like to thank all the futurists who stopped by our booth at the Worlds Fair Nano NYC and at the Faceebook Bacon, Blues, and Brews event!
Have a great weekend!
